Henrietta Branford was born in India, and also lived in Jordan and the New Forest as a child. She began writing late in life, but soon became one of the best-known children's authors of her generation. In 1994 she won the Smarites Prize for DIMANCHE DILLER, and she was shorlisted for the Guardian Children's Fiction Award twice. Henrietta died in 1998 and in her memory the Branford Boase Award was created. Rosalind Beardshaw is a young illustrator with a growing reputation. Twice shortlisted for the Sheffield Children's Book Award, she is published by Bloomsbury and Hodder. She lives in York.
