Start Knitting by Betty Barnden
Knitting is coming back into fashion as a fun, practical and therapeutic craft. But while previous generations might have learnt knitting at their mother's knee, today's would-be knitters rarely have access to such a reservoir of knowledge. Start Knitting fills this gap. Taking the beginner step-by-step thorough every stage of learning to knit, it progresses from elementary techniques through to a variety of stitches. Along the way the varied projects give you the opportunity to practice the skills you've learned and make practical and stylish garments, accessories, and items for the home.
Betty Barnden is a professional hand-knitter and needlecraft designer. She studied furniture design at London's Royal College of Art where she made her first knitted chairs. Her knitwear, crochet and embroidery designs have appeared in many UK magazines over the years, including Women's Own, Classic Stitches and Inspirations. She has designed knitting and crochet patterns for yarn companies such as Sidar, Patons, Wendy Wools, King Cole and Twilley's of Stamford. Betty has also contributed designs to knitting books and also written two knitting books of her own. Betty lives in Shropshire.
