When Katia leaves her native Poland for the more permissive world of 60s London, she finds herself trying to cope with situations she had never dreamed of: a dreary job on a womenPenelope Gilliatt was an English novelist, short story writer, screenwriter, and cinema critic who was born in 1932. She is most known for creating the script for the movie Sunday, Bloody Sunday (1971), as well as several other novels, including One by One (1965). Nobody's Business, a collection of her short stories, was published in 1972. Gilliatt worked as a film critic for The Observer before starting a long-running piece in The New Yorker, in which she rotated as principal film reviewer with Pauline Kael every six months. She was married to writer John Osborne from 1963 to 1968, and they had one child together.
