Steps to Electric: Cambridge by Gary Seamarks

Gary Seamarks takes a look at the Cambridge bus scene and the steps taken towards all-electric buses. The Stagecoach East and Whippet fleets, along with more recent operators such as Stephensons and A2B, are featured, mostly in central Cambridge locations but also around the Cambridgeshire Busway, which runs across the university city. Route branding of the Park & Ride vehicles has introduced additional colour to the Stagecoach operation, along with a city sightseeing operation. Whippet, on the other hand, runs a mixed fleet of second-hand and new single-deckers, supplemented by many older double-deckers which add interest to the fleet. Both operators have now taken batches of electric buses as they look to the future.
Gary Seamarks has lived in Bedfordshire his entire life, and became interested in railways at a young age. Buses soon followed, and his interest in the transport scene has never waned.
