Rommel had the upper hand, but according to Stirling, he had left himself vulnerable; his lines of communication and airfields along the coast were crying out to be attacked. Once on an airfield, Stirling and his men planted Lewes bombs underneath the wings in the shadows of each Bf-109 fighter. They were set with ten-minute time delay fuses.
