Born in County Cork, Father Michael McCarthy now lives in Sherburn-in-Elmet, Yorkshire. His poems have been published in a variety of literary magazines and in 1997 he won the Patrick Kavanagh Award for Birds' Nests and Other Poems. He has also written The Story of Daniel and the Lions' Den, for Barefoot Books also illustrated by Giuliano Ferri. Giuliano Ferri graduated from the Art Institute of Urbino, Italy, where he specialised in animation. He has since worked as a full-time illustrator and his art has been exhibited worldwide, from the Pompidou Centre in Paris, to the Itabashi Art Museum in Tokyo. Giuliano has also illustrated The Story of Daniel and the Lions' Den (2003) and How Do Animals Say Hello? (1997).
