To Tell You The Truth
Alexis Jones is an expert on Generation Y and a thought leader for the 21st century women's movement. Alexis is a Texas native who earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Southern California. Alexis is an internationally famous speaker, media personality, and activist, as well as the creator of the non-profit I AM THAT GIRL. Alexis and I AM THAT GIRL presented their Healthy Media project to The White House Council on Women and Girls in Washington, DC, accompanied by prominent media influencers. Alexis began her media career as a participant on the hit CBS show Survivor, hosting live television on the red carpet, working at FOX Sports and ESPN, and hosting live television on the red carpet.
Alexis' fame has increased in tandem with her influence. She was a life counselor on MTV's smash series MADE and was included in AOL's MAKERS Video Series alongside Oprah Winfrey, Ellen DeGeneres, Hilary Clinton, and Sheryl Sandberg. She was named to DELL's #Inspire 100 List, Fast Company's â oeFemale Trailblazersâ and ESPN's Pop Culture's Top Ten as an Ambassador for L'Oreal's new STEM project. She's been featured in NPR, Glamour, Women's Health, The Huffington Post, and The LA Times, among other publications.
Alexis is starting a movement and spreading the idea that self-doubt can be transformed into self-love. The national non-profit organization I AM THAT GIRL was created in 2008 by Alexis Jones and Emily Greener to address the rising demand for community for girls and young women by helping them build self-esteem and fulfill their full potential. (10% of the book revenues will go to fund I AM THAT GIRL 501c3). Understanding the hazards of living in a digital age, as well as consumption and media notions of beauty, the group has created an interactive platform with information to inspire and encourage. The group assists girls and young women around the country in developing a sense of belonging and community by establishing local chapters that gather on a regular basis to discuss and share feelings about current events, bullying, and eating disorders, among other subjects.
The curriculum for I AM THAT GIRL is provided to assist guide debate and provide ideas for calls to action.
