Streams to the River, River to the Sea by Scott O'dell

Hovering between the psychological and the social worlds, these poems explore completely new terrain. There's such inner intensity to this book, every page of which is a vehicle driven at high speed through strangely familiar places. Michelle Brown's images are startling, uncanny, as her metaphors are weird and true. Her language is razor sharp, startling in its precision, while the mystery of this world is honored with restraint and enigma, too. Motherland, With Wolves is the work of the poet whose readers will be changed from viewing the world as she brings it to them with her wild eye. -Laura Kasischke
