He oversaw the Arizona Geological Survey's geologic framework and mapping initiative, which resulted in the publication of a new Geologic Map of Arizona. He has gone throughout the country as a renowned speaker for the National Association of Geoscience Teachers, giving speeches and workshops on how to incorporate active learning and inquiry into large introductory geology classes. He frequently appears as a keynote speaker at national workshops and symposia on active learning, visualization, and teaching.
