Students Companion to Old Irish Grammar by Ranke De Vries
Note: a second revised edition of this book is now available: https: //www.amazon.com/dp/1777340101This book, written in an intentionally informal style, aims to make Old Irish grammar more accessible to students of all backgrounds. The material is based on handouts that have been used by students in Old Irish grammar courses at various universities for over a decade, and comments and suggestions for improvements offered by both students and instructors have been incorporated. It can serve as a stand-alone introduction or can be used in conjunction with other grammatical works, in hopes of elucidating some of the tricky concepts that makes Old Irish such a fascinating and rewarding subject for study
Ranke de Vries doesn't exist. Just kidding! She does. She lives in Nova Scotia with her husband, daughter, and an ornery and somewhat ratty black cat called Oscar, who, frankly, deserves his own book at some stage. She loves books, coffee and dark chocolate (Tony Chocolonely extra dark is her favourite), pretty much in that order. This is her first children's book, and she is super excited about this, as she usually writes interminably boring things about medieval Celtic Studies - just ask her family. Although not Oscar. Oscar will probably just maul you when you get too close to him, so you may just wish to stay away from him and chuck treats at him from a safe distance. In fact, he is hanging on Ranke's arm now, trying to gnaw his way through to the other side. Someone help. She may need assistance.
