Superior Donuts by Tracy Letts
An entertaining comedy-drama set in a local donut shop in the heart of one of Chicago's most diverse communities. By the Pulitzer Prize winning author of August: Osage County.
Arthur Przybyszewski runs the donut shop that has been in his family for sixty years. More content to spend the day smoking weed and reminiscing about his Polish immigrant father, Arthur hires a shop assistant, the young African American Franco Wicks, who has both an unpublished novel and unpaid gambling debt.
The play explores the challenges of embracing the past and the redemptive power of friendship. A love letter to the city where the author has lived for more than twenty years, Letts describes his work as 'an exploration of the Chicago storefront experience.'
Tracy Letts is a playwright, actor, and Steppenwolf Theatre Company ensemble member. Killer Joe, Bug, Man from Nebraska, August: Osage County, Superior Donuts, and a modern rendition of Chekhov's Three Sisters are among his many works. He is the only individual to win a Tony Award for acting as well as a Pulitzer Prize for literature.
