Maggie M. Grimshaw spent her childhood in Darwen, Lancashire. She went to teacher training college in Leeds, majoring in French, then taught in West Yorkshire. In 1986 she moved permanently to France, setting up her own business as an interpreter, translator, tutor and teaching assistant in primary schools. In 1995 she passed the national French Civil Service exams and taught English at high school level in France for 18 years, working also as lecturer in education at Toulouse University and advisor to newly-qualified English teachers. She has participated in the production of several text books and CDs for the French educational market. She retired in June 2013. Surf over Sand is her first novel.
