A Sweet Life by Lucinda Osmond

A visit to Osmond's Tobacconist & Confectioner on Dorchester's South Street was a happy ritual for young and old alike. Relive the tastes and aromas of a traditional sweet shop in this heart-warming memoir of customers and characters, friendships and family, played out in the rural landscape of a Dorset market town in the 1970s, a time when independent shops not only had a presence on the high street, but contributed to the personality of the town.

Lucinda Osmond shares the joys and challenges of growing up around a family business on the cusp of decline, at the mercy of hiked rent reviews and big business moving in. Come with her and explore the secret disappeared world of a traditional sweet shop - a place of Black Magic and flying saucers.

Osmond, Lucinda: - Lucinda Osmond grew up in Dorchester, working with her dad in 'the shop' on Saturdays and in the holidays. She left Dorchester aged eighteen to follow her childhood dream to become a nurse, and later became a lawyer. She is happy to have at last put down on paper the stories she has been carrying around in her head for years. She is married with two children and although now lives in Surrey, remains a Dorset girl at heart.
