During his spare time he wrote stories for a local newspaper about Swifty, the aeroplane, under the pseudonym of 'Uncle David'. The children loved to hear and read them and he received letters from them saying how much they loved the stories. In all, some fifty stories were written during the year and remain treasured items in David's records.
