Tales From a Zen Kitchen by Florencia Clifford
I have learned to notice the splendour of life even in the slimiest of creatures. I have found beauty in what I used to perceive as ugly. Slowly I have learned to love that which is difficult to love, both in myself and in others. Florencia Clifford is a zen cook. In this evocative and powerful book, we move seamlessly from Buddhist retreats in an isolated farmhouse in mid-Wales, to the hills of Florencia's childhood in Argentina, and back again. She describes her experiences in sensual detail: the subtle and magical shifts in herself, the seasons, and the people around her. Along the way, she shares her insights and many delicious vegetarian recipes. This is a journey of cooking and healing, taking us into a deep and luminous understanding of the food she prepares, and of the world around us. It tells of the growth of love, as the author learns to care for all beings, including the slugs in the title. This book features twenty original illustrations by artist Michaela Meadow.

There are many delicious recipes tucked inside these pages, but the main one is this: in responding to each moment with authenticity, inquiry, compassion and mindfulness, we truly encounter the wonder of our lives. -- Ned Reiter, Zen Practitioner and Registered Medical Herbalist

Put simply, Feeding Orchids to the Slugs is the best book I've ever thought I'd not want to read. -- Real Epicurean
The reader cannot help but be affected by this author's ability to see cooking as a joy and by the way her spirit shines through her words as she describes her recipes. She speaks of her cooking as a kind of alchemy - the transformation of basic ingredients into food. -- Green Spirit Magazine
Feeding Orchids to the Slugs is one of the most honest and moving accounts of an individual's personal journey that we have had the pleasure of reading. This is a book that we would strongly recommend to anyone. It would also make a perfect gift, being a carefully crafted hardback with superb illustrations by Michaela Meadow. -- Buddhist Book Reviews
I've read a few other reviews of 'Feeding Orchids to The Slugs' on the net to see how other people described it; "evocative" seems to be the word used the most, and I couldn't think of a better one myself. -- Real Epicurean
