Dr. Gabriel Hemery is a forest scientist, author, and photographer who specializes in trees. His debut novel, The New Sylva, was released by Bloomsbury in 2014 to critical acclaim. In 2016, he published his first short tale, Don't Look Back, in the anthology Arboreal (Little Toller Books). Green Gold (Unbound), his first full-length novel, was published in 2019 with an accompanying exhibition at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. Tall Trees Short Tales Vol.20, published in 2020, is a collection of environmental tales.

Gabriel co-founded the Sylva Foundation in 2009 and has served as its Chief Executive Officer since then. He's also a founding trustee of Fund4Trees, an arboreal organization that works with children and urban trees. Gabriel has authored over 90 technical articles that have been cited in over 900 papers by other scientists. Throughout his career, he has planted over 100,000 trees.

Throughout 2010-11, he and six other prominent environmentalists successfully campaigned to save England's public woodlands from government disposal. He assisted in the creation and introduction of the UK Tree Charter in 2017. He's been on a number of advisory boards, including the Woodland Trust and the Forestry Commission. Gabriel maintains a top-ranked tree blog with updates on his books and pictures, and he is frequently featured in the media discussing or writing about trees.
