Tony Ward, PhD, DipClinPsyc, is a clinical psychologist and clinical training director at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand. He has taught clinical and forensic psychology at Melbourne, Canterbury, and Deakin Universities, as well as being a professorial fellow at the Universities of Birmingham, Kent, Melbourne, and Portsmouth. His principal research interests include desistance and reintegration processes in criminals, risk conceptualizations and management, cognition and evolutionary approaches to crime, and ethical issues in forensic and correctional psychology. He has coauthored more than 370 academic papers. For his work on offence pathways, he received the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers' (ATSA) 2003 major achievement award. Professor Ward is the creator of the Good Lives Model, and since 2002, he has produced multiple books, book chapters, and academic articles on the subject.

Desistance from sex offending: Alternatives to Throwing Away the Keys (Guilford Publishing, 2011), which he coauthored with Richard Laws, combines the GLM with desistance theory and research. He is now working on a book-length study about sexual offense, evolution, and agency.
