Tank Book by Masoud Golsorkhi
In the oversaturated magazine world, there has been a flowering in recent years of 'boutique publishing' that has given marketeers and advertisers an entirely new spectrum of readerships and target groups. One of the first magazines - and today one of the most successful - to foray into exciting area was Tank, an ingenious blend of imagery from fashion, graphics, photojournalism and design presented in a compact, 'bookzine' format. Resisting celebrity-culture features and PR- and shopping-led editorial in favour of experimentation and rising voices in fashion photography and illustration, Tank gave new life to fashion publishing. Tank Book brings together the very best from the first too small format issues, the limited early numbers of which have become collector's items around the world. Presenting a wholly original body of work, most of which is now unobtainable, the book is a rich resource of the freshest talents and most innovative visual ideas, an invaluable reference for art directors, fashionistas, design junkles and the photosensitive.
Iranian-born Masoud Golsorkhi studied photography at the University of Westminster in London before working as a fashion photographer for such publications as Interview, Jalouse, Numero and Harpers & Queen. German-born Andreas Laeufer studied communication design in Constanz, Germany. He worked as an art director for advertising agencies in Germany and Switzerland before becoming a freelance art director for such fashion companies as Hugo Boss and Joop!. After moving to London he met Masoud, and they launched Tank magazine in 1998.
