The Tattybogle Tree by Sandra Horn
Essie Cluckett is a lady-scarecrow with no one to love... until she strikes up a friendship with the tree that once was Tattybogle. But jealousy threatens their friendship when some exotic moths prefer Tattybogle's leaves to Essie's hat and her ego is hurt - then disaster strikes! And Essie must decide between vanity and friendship... An endearing lyrical tale matched by magical illustrations from a shining new talent. The author: Sandra grew up in Crowborough in East Sussex, amidst downland, small farms and hop gardens. Her Birmingham grandfather and Sussex great-grandmother were wonderful story-tellers, and Sandra began to follow in their footsteps while still at school, when she had stories and poems published in 'Young Elizabethan'. Sandra now has three adult children, and lives with her husband in Southampton. She is a lecturer at Southampton Univeristy.
The illustrator: Karen is a highly successful fine artist and muralist - now embarking on a career in children's books. She lives in North London with her husband and two teenage sons.
