Author, college lecturer and recently a senior research fellow at the Newberry Library, Chicago, Dr John Sugden holds degrees from the universities of Leeds, Lancaster and Sheffield, and has pursued historical research in archives throughout Britain and North America. He has contributed to numerous journals and his previous books, Tecumseh's Last Stand (1985) and Sir Francis Drake (1990) received overwhelming critical acclaim. Tecumseh won the 1999 Society for Military History Distinguished book Award.
