Dr. Luis A. Perez is the author of this book. Rosado is the head of the University of Texas at Arlington's Center for Bilingual and ESL Education and a professor in the College of Education. He went to the University of Puerto Rico, Boston State College, and Texas A&M University-Kingsville for his education. He's written about pedagogy and professional responsibilities, parental involvement, cross-cultural communication, Spanish linguistics, and Spanish for bilingual instructors. Dr. Rosado has taught at the elementary, high school, and college levels for over 25 years.
He's taught in Puerto Rico, Massachusetts, and Texas, among other places. Dr. Carla Amaro-Jimenez, a Visiting Assistant Professor of Bilingual/ESL Education at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), is one of the contributing authors. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati and the Universidad Latina de Costa Rica. She taught bilingual and dual language early childhood classrooms in Costa Rica and Ohio before coming to UTA.
Her research interests include pre-service and in-service teacher preparation for culturally and linguistically diverse environments, equity concerns connected to Hispanic English language learners' schooling (instruction, learning, and assessment), and the use of technology for content-based second language learning and teaching. Dr. Peggy Semingson is an Assistant Professor of Literacy Studies at the University of Texas at Arlington's College of Education. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, Texas State University at San Marcos, and the University of California at Santa Barbara with degrees. She spent eight years teaching bilingual pupils in both Southern California and Texas.
She has worked as a bilingual reading specialist and has taught fifth grade and third grade. Dr. Semingson speaks about literacy learning, bilingual best practices, and parental involvement at local, state, and national conferences. Dr. Dora Salazar is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Education at Texas Tech University and the Assistant Director of the Center for Research in Leadership and Education. She is also the Program Director of Project TEACH. She graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, with a bachelor's degree.
Dr. Salazar has worked as a professor at Texas Woman's University and the University of Texas-Pan American. Models of online teacher preparation programs, as well as certification concerns involving out-of-state and foreign credential teachers, are among her research interests. Dr. Salazar has been awarded multiple grants in Texas to train bilingual and ESL instructors. Dr. Salazar has 20 years of experience teaching in bilingual classes and at the university level.
