Textiles from Guatemala (Fabric Folio by Anne Hecht

Who were the craftsmen who wove these textiles? How were they worn and why were they made? Are there different styles for different villages? Can we read stories into the designs and how should we interpret them? What were the dyes and materials which were used and the principal weaving techniques employed? In her introduction Anne Hecht provides the background information to bring the pieces to life. Where appropriate, brief commentaries highlight the design features and detailed captions throughout provide the textile student with relevant technical information. In addition all techniques and terms are fully explained in a glossary. Whether you want to rely on the book for eye-catching patterns or refer to it for specific technical information there is a wealth of inspiration for readers of all levels.
Ann Hecht trained as a graphic designer before specialising in weaving, spinning and dyeing. For the last seventeen years she has been involved in adult education and still gives lectures and workshops. Since her previous book, The Art of the Loom, she has spent three years researching The British Museum's extensive collection of Guatemalan textiles, and travelled to Guatemala on being awarded a British Academy research grant.
