That Which Was Lost: The Deltic Disaster, Part Two by Jeff Vawter
Five years on, having just emerged from forced confinement, former Chair of the Deltic Admirers and Steady Enthusiasts (DOSE), Diesel Dan Settles, must now confront his apparent lack of direction and absence of plan for the rest of his life. There was no going back to what was; the breakers' yards had seen to that.
Join him as he struggles to regain his own sense of dignity and purpose. Will another opportunity to pursue his interest appear, or will he simply have to contend with the reality of life without it?
Vawter, Jeff: - Jeff's love of trains began at age two when he received his first model train set with a figure eight track. From there his interests (and layout) grew to include steam engines, steampowered excursions, railway history and rail photography. Retired from a career in education, he enjoys pursuing his hobbies such as train watching and photographing, reading, history, riding a bike, listening to classical music, viewing films from the silent and golden Hollywood eras and writing. What was the motivation, then, for writing the novel? Having missed the end of steam in Great Britain by one year, and restricted from experiencing the preservation scene there for economic reasons, I felt that vicarious pleasures would have to serve through the characters and stories.
