Anderson, a native of Milwaukee and a lifelong Manhattan resident, is a well-known dance writer and critic who has contributed to publications such as The New York Times, Dancing Times (London), and New York Theatre-Wire. Seven books about dance, including The One and Only: The Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and Art Without Boundaries: The World of Modern Dance, have been authored or edited by him. He co-founded Dance Chronicle with George Dorris and co-edited it for 21 years.
