The Hero of Color City by Frank Gladstone

GETING OUT THE GAME IS HARD

After losing his father at age six, Javon Taylor, known in the streets as J., is forced to play the game without guidance. The youngest of three boys, Javon embraced a different, much darker childhood from that of his older brother's. J. finds a letter written by his father retracing his hazardous lifestyle in the streets of Baltimore leading to his addiction to drugs and alcohol, and ultimately causing him to go mentally insane. Making friends came easy to J., but after moving around his entire life he develops a reserved thuggish demeanor, while vowing to never love, trust or commit to anyone or anything. Trapped between the grind of a natural hustler and a natural athlete, Javon and his boys must overcome a childhood surrounded by sex, broken homes, drugs, alcohol, gangs, crime, guns, murder and prison. Playing football gave Javon an opportunity to earn a college education and play professional football, but first he and his boys must trust God and get out the game.

Omar Powell is a creature of habit, conquering unimaginable task surpassing the expectations of all mankind. Blessed with a creative mind, he uses his distinct dialogue to build a communication bridge between all race, class, ages and genders. Incorporated in his genre of storytelling he takes breathtaking measures to bring readers into his world of; poverty, death, passion, money, politics, religion, sex, drugs, violence, deceit, crime, education, loyalty, sports, prison, health and family. Powell is also a talented artist mastering the techniques of communicating feelings, moments in time and emotions through a brush or pencil. The pages are a blank canvas on which to draw from a talent heralded by many and matched only by an imagination that rises to every task. Getting Out The Game is the first in a series of recent challenging pursuits, with work progressing quickly on the follow-up. Taking an inner city hustlers approach to the top may be unconventional, however; Powell understands God sets our paths and guides our footsteps. If obstacles, trials and tribulations are indeed inevitable, we must not go off track, in fact we must consider it part of our overall plan for happiness, wealth and spiritual growth.
