Irwin Shaw (1913-1984) was born and raised in New York City, where he attended Brooklyn College and graduated in 1934. He is the author of twelve books, including Rich Man, Poor Man, The Troubled Air, Nightwork, Acceptable Losses, Evening in Byzantium, and The Young Lions, the last of which was published by the University of Chicago Press.
