Theater of Architecture by Hugh Hardy
Architect Hugh Hardy is the quintessential New Yorker. His irrepressible love of the city animates all of his work, which can be found in numerous of the city's most loved institutions: the magnificently restored Radio City Music Hall, the Brooklyn Academy of Music and its Harvey Theatre, the New York Botanical Garden, the cafe at Bryant Park and the renovated New Victory and New Amsterdam theatres on Forty Second Street, among others. It is no coincidence that so many of these projects have been theatrical; Hardy began his career working under celebrated scenic designer Jo Mielziner and his career has ever since embodied his fascination with how people come together in public spaces as a form of theatrical display.
Hugh Hardy has build and reshaped America's cultural landscape through architecture. Throughout his fifty year career, Mr. Hardy's work has been consistently recognized by civic architectural and preservation organizations for a progressive spirit and sensitive understanding of context. Mr. Hardy is the founding partner of H3 Hardy Collaboration Architecture, known for the Orchestra of St. Luke's DiMenna Center for Classical Music; multiple projects for the Brooklyn Academy of Music; the restorations of Radio City Music Hall; and restoration of Bryant Park. His faithful restorations of the New Victory and the New Amsterdam theatres, among many other projects on 42nd Street were pivotal in the reemergence of Theatre Row as one of New York's premier places of entertainment.
