Their Glory Shall Not Be Blotted Out by Olaf Macleod
The outbreak of war in 1914 marked the disappearance of the colourful uniforms which had distinguished the regiments of the British Army for some three hundred years. The splendid full dress uniforms of the British Army, now so rarely seen, were a familiar sight prior to the Great War. Once, a soldier's unit or branch of the service could be recognised from his dress: the colour of his tunic, the shape of his head-dress, the presence or otherwise of characteristic embroidery, cords and chains. Today such knowledge is largely confined to individual enthusiasts. Through his meticulous and beautiful paintings, Lieutenant Colonel MacLeod has created a permanent record of the ceremony, grace and dignity of the last of the British Army's full dress, now only used in military tattoos and other ceremonial occasions.| SKU | Unavailable |
