There's Only One Arthur Bottom by David Walker

Few issues spark more passionate emotions among football fans than the debate about the best players they've ever seen and if they have an all-time great as their football icon who fits into the role of their cult heroes? The men who may have played like marauders or mavericks but have invariably developed a special bond with the fans along the way. Using the unique Daily Mirror Photographic Library, the input of Sunday Mirror readers and the views of the Football Supporters' Federation, Haynes Publishing has come up with the ultimate book to provoke debate among football fans everywhere. "There's Only One Arthur Bottom" will assess the impact, style and merits of those players the fans hail as their favourite stars. All 92 clubs who were in the Premier and Football League at the start of the 2012-13 season are included. Some of the proposed icons are predictable. Other nominations will spark heated debate. "There's Only One Arthur Bottom" will also highlight the conflicting values of football fans in their search for skill, stardust and never-say-die attitudes. After all, one man's Clown Prince of Football is another fan's greedy so-and-so.
David Walker began reporting on Leeds United in 1973. He covered Leeds for The Sun from 1982-85 and then became the Daily Mail's man in Yorkshire. Leeds revival under Howard Wilkinson coincided with David's promotion to the Daily Mail's chief football news reporter. He joined the Mail on Sunday as deputy sports editor, still covering Leeds affairs, in 1997. In 2000 he became an executive director of Leeds United. He is now the Sunday Mirror's sports editor.
