Third-Wave Cognitive Therapy for the Treatment of Loss and Grief by Faramarz Hashempour

This book proposes and explores a novel conceptualisation of the grieving process grounded in evolutionary psychology that integrates cognitive behavioural approaches such as compassion focused therapy, metacognitive awareness, and acceptance and commitment therapy.

'In the past few years many people have died due to COVID-19 and instead of being able to follow our traditions, cultures and faiths about death and dying, people across the world were forced to change these vital processesI personally believe that the changing of these essential rites of passage has and will have a profound impact on the grieving process and thus on people's mental health in general. I have found this book to be clearly written, very engaging and right now so needed by students, clinicians, educators and researchers as the issues with complex grief are going to be on a scale never seen before. I am delighted to recommend this text.' — Derek McLaughlin, PhD, RN, Senior Lecturer and Professional Lead for Mental Health Nursing, Queen’s University Belfast

'A Turkish saying goes, "The journey of those without a guide ends in a dead end." In a difficult clinical field such as complicated grief, where the therapeutic process can be injurious for clients as well as ambiguous for clinicians, the authors offer us a valuable guide in which clinical practice is built on a strong theoretical model and embodied in case vignettes.' — Vahdet Gormez, MD, MRCPsych, Associate Professor and Chair, Department of Child and Youth Mental Health, Istanbul Medeniyet University

'Without question the authors have created the definitive guide for working effectively with grief and loss. The guide provides valuable clinical insights on assessment, formulation and case conceptualisation through to how to implement the five-phase protocol in your practice and is enhanced with clinical examples throughout. An essential text.' — Marie Chellingsworth, Founder, The CBT Resource and Senior Lecturer
