Thorsons Way of Native American Traditions by Arthur Versluis
This title provides a concise introduction to the traditions of the American Indian peoples, ranging from the Eskimos of the far North to the Aztecs and Incas of South America, and from the tribes of the East Coast to those of the Plains and the far West. The author draws on the wisdom of well-known visionaries such as Black Elk to explain: the main features of American Indian cultures, including their deep understanding of nature; the fascinating ceremonies and rituals that are practised by many tribes; their warrior, shamanic and medicine practices as well as their religious perspectives; and the sacred sites and symbols of the native American peoples.
Arthur Versluis is the author of many books and articles on traditional religions and cultures, including sacred earth: the Spiritual Landscapes of Native America. In recent years, he has been heavily involved with Native American peoples, meeting with tribal elders, visiting sacred sites, and researching the spiritual meaning of the landscape. Arthur Versluis is Assistant Professor of American Thought and Language at Michigan State University.
