
A Thousand Autumns by Charles C Southerland Jr
A Thousand Autumns is part of an engraving, taken from a dedicatory monument located in Arlington National cemetery. It tells the story of a valiant struggle during the Secret War in Laos lost in the annals of Vietnam history.
Dr. C. C. Southerland served on active duty in the United States Army from 1970-1973, with Training Group, Special Forces, as well as the 173rd Airborne Brigade and the 101st Airborne Division. He served thereafter in the National Guard and Active Reserves from 1973-1983, with elements of the 20th, 19th and 12th Special Forces Groups. Dr. Southerland concluded service as a Special Forces Senior NCO (E-7 SFC) at the beginning of his Surgical Residency training in 1983. SFC Southerland served as Junior and Senior A Detachment Medical NCO, Battalion Medical Training NCO, and attended SFUWO Scuba School over the Summer of 1980. He was rated a Senior Jumpmaster and earned Korean Jump Wings while serving as an advisor to ROK Tec Subidaes (Korean Special Forces) in ITaewan, Korea. Dr. Southerland is presently a teaching clinician and Full Professor. He has published in numerous text books and Professional Journals.
