Through the Net by Simon Golding

In 1985 Simon Golding, having given up semi-professional football, began playing volleyball at West Sussex Institute of Higher Education, coached by Nick Smith. In 1988 he graduated with a sports degree and joined capital City Spikers where he began his Division One NVL career. The pinnacle of his indoor career came when he represented Great Britain in the 1991 World Student Games in Sheffield, his only real international experience and one that his friends will tell you he never stops talking about. Too short to really make it as an international middle blocker, Simon has had a successful domestic career playing in all the court positions and is now resting his weary and injured bones setting for Wessex Volleyball Club and shuffling around on the sand. Over the last fifteen years Simon has played twenty-nine international matches, two cup finals and eight beach Volleyball Grand Prix finals (including the 2000 British Championships).
