Unknown to the Western world until its first publication in 1954, this book reveals the Mahayana, the yogic method of attaining Enlightenment. The edition also includes an essay by Carl Jung on the differences between Eastern and Western modes of thought, and equates the 'collective unconscious' wiW.Y.Evans-Wentz was a Theosophist who studied at Stanford University and Oxford's Jesus College. Afterwards, he proceeded to Tibet, where he studied Tibetan religious literature and collaborated with Lama Kazi Dawa-Samdup to transcribe works that became known as The Tibetan Book of the Dead or The After-Death Encounters on the Bardo Plane. He is credited as one of the intellectuals who helped to popularize Tibetan Buddhism in the West.
