Time-In by Jean Illsley Clarke
Time-out is a great way to handle misbehavior--but sometimes it doesn't do the job. When you feel frustrated, angry, helpless or scared because this traditional discipline tool doesn't work, you need to add Time-In. Designed to prevent problems by teaching children to think, to be competent and to succeed, Time-In recommends four tools that fit together like puzzle pieces. Ask, act, attend and amend are versatile enough to help you handle any behavior in children between the ages of one and 12. Some problems will be solved with one of these pieces, while others will require three or four. You can use Time-in when you want your children to: Listen and think (the parent asks);-Change their behavior in a positive way (the parent acts);
-Pay attention to what they or others need (the parent attends); and
-Correct something they've done wrong (the child amends).
