Tips on Card Play by Mike Lawrence

20 years ago, Mike Lawrence published a series of short pamphlets for intermediate players with advice on various aspects of bidding and cardplay. Long unavailable, this material has now been revised, updated, and republished in three anthology volumes, each comprised of about 10 of the original booklets. The topics here comprise: Defense (including opening leads, signaling and third hand play) and declarer play (including endplays, simple squeezes, loser on loser plays, and timing). There is also a general discussion of the mistakes we all make in cardplay but need to avoid. Lawrence is acknowledged as one of the two or three best writers in the world for intermediate players, and there will be a ready audience for this series in its new format.

Mike Lawrence is the illustrator of Muddy Max: The Mystery of Marsh Creek (co-written with Elizabeth Rusch) and Melissa Keil's novel The Amazing Adventures of Cinnamon Girl. His debut as a solo graphic writer is the Star Scouts series (published by First Second). Mike has made various pieces of public art for his hometown of Portland, Oregon, where he lives with his wife and two sons, in addition to drawing comics.
