Tirzah by Lucille Travis
Twelve-year-old Tirzah and her family are slaves in Egypt. Pharaoh forces them to make mud bricks without straw, so Tirzah cuts grass for her father and older brother to use. The police crack their cruel whips to make them work harder. If only Tirzah's people could escape. If only Moses could persuade Pharaoh to let them go. Surely Yahweh, the Lord God, will hear their prayers to leave Egypt for a better life somewhere else, they hope.Lucille Travis is the author of numerous books for children, including Tirzah (Herald Press, 1991). She authored the Jeanmarie series in 2000 and 2001, and the Ben and Zach series in 1995 (Baker Books). She has written many poems, reviews and articles for Christian periodicals, including Focus on the Family Clubhouse Magazine, Reformed Journal, and Perspectives. She has taught college-level English and lectured in Christian literature. She holds degrees in education and Bible from Gordon College and a master's in literature from Western Connecticut State University. Lucille lives in Arden Hills, Minnesota, with her husband William.
