Maria Semple spent a few years traveling around Europe with her parents. They lived in Spain for a while, and it was there that their father, Lorenzo, wrote Batman scripts. After they moved to Colorado, Maria went to Choate Rosemary Hall, where she was very happy. Superior studies were pursued at Barnard, and Maria decided to pursue a career as a novelist there. Nevertheless, his plans were thwarted when he began working as a guionist for Twentieth Century Fox.
He moved to Los Angeles and worked on the television shows Beverly Hills, 90210, Ellen, Crazy About You, and Arrested Development.
