Tom Clancy was a Maryland insurance broker with a penchant for naval history a little more than thirty years ago. He had been an English major at Loyola College in Baltimore for years and had always wanted to write a novel. The Hunt for Red October, the first of the tremendously popular Jack Ryan novels, sold swiftly due to glowing reviews, then rocketed to the top of the New York Times bestseller list after President Ronald Reagan declared it the ideal yarn. Clancy established himself as an unchallenged master of combining extraordinary realism and authenticity, sophisticated narrative, and razor-sharp tension from that day forward. He died in October of 2013.

Mike Maden is the best-selling author of the Drone series. He has a master's degree as well as a doctorate. in political science, with a focus on international affairs and comparative politics, from the University of California at Davis. Maden has worked as a political strategist and campaign manager in both state and national elections, as well as hosting his own weekly radio show in his hometown for a year.
