DOUGLAS LORAIN'S family relocated to Oregon when he was six years old, and he has never left. He's now a tax accountant in Portland, and he's spent the last few decades exploring every nook, cranny, and corner of his home state. All total, he's hiked almost 16,000 miles in Oregon. In a typical year, he treks between 1500 and 2000 miles and spends 150 to 200 days on the route, the majority of which is in Oregon. Backpacking Oregon, his debut book, was published by Wilderness Publishing in 1988.
Backpacking Washington, Afoot & Afield -- Portland/Vancouver, and Backpacking Idaho were the next three books on the list. His images have appeared in books such as Exploring Oregon and Volcano--Mount St. Helens. Helens, as well as a number of gorgeous calendars for Oregon, Washington, Montana, Nevada, Wyoming, and Idaho; they've also been featured in publications like Oregon Outside.
