Anudyuti Maitra, a multi-faceted personality, is my younger brother and my first friend. As we grew up in the mystically beautiful hill station of Shillong in the seventies, we shared the golden period of childhood there. Anudyuti was a brilliant student in his school, the All Saints Diocesan School in Shillong, and he obtained a merit position in the board examination in 1981 as he secured the 10th rank in the high school leaving certificate examination. He had a keen interest in sports and games and played football, cricket, table tennis, chess and among other games. He represented his schools in the above activities from time to time and won many accolades. He learnt playing the tabla, during his school days, and had music lessons from his mother. He learnt music with passion and also learnt to play the sitar mostly by himself. Thus, he started composing songs and began singing as well. It is very interesting to note that being the all-rounder that he was, he started writing poems like me, his elder sister, who had passion for writing. I can still recall his diary where he wrote poems and signed off each poem with a sketch of a gun or a sword as a young boy. He also obtained the Jury's award in a poem writing competition in the Ananda Sammelan Competition in Shillong when he was less than nine years old. Though professionally he is a lawyer now practicing in different courts of law, he still takes out time for social work, music and writing. It is very heartening to see his passion for all the things which are heartfelt. Last year, on the 10th of February, he lost his dear wife because of a sudden illness; he started expressing his feelings in poems. This book, comprising 19 poems, is an expression of his feelings written in memory of his beloved wife dedicated by him to her. His wife was his true companion and friend to him and her loss is very painful. But, he has picked up the reins of life and has chosen to paint life with the colours of hope again, which I think is really commendable and inspiring. The poems are beautifully crafted with lots of love and hope and the reader can get a glimpse of the life of Anudyuti as they read through each one. Last but not the least, I wish Anudyuti and this collection of poems composed in memory of his wife, my very best. ARYAMA SANYAL AIRPORT DIRECTOR A.A.I, INDORE AIRPORT, INDORE MADHYA PRADESH
