ABOUT THE AUTHOR Victor Sheymov is a computer security expert, author, scientist, inventor, and holder of multiple patents for methods and systems in cyber security. He was responsible for coordination of all security aspects of Russian cipher communications with its outposts abroad when he was exfiltrated with his wife and daughter by the CIA in 1980. He worked for the National Security Agency for a number of years and is a recipient of several prestigious awards in intelligence and security. Victor Sheymov is also the author of TOWER OF SECRETS: A Real Life Spy Thriller. This memoir describes how Sheymov, ace troubleshooter for the KGB super-secret Eighth Chief Directorate, operating out of the infamous Lubyanka Moscow Center, was head of security for cipher communications worldwide, and thus had a rare knowledge of the entire KGB system. A star player, headed for the top, his contacts ranged from party elite to the dissident community and the Moscow underworld. Victor Sheymov is also the author of CYBERSPACE and SECURITY: A Fundamentally New Approach. This book establishes that our legacy computer security systems are failing for a simple reason: we tried to adopt security methods developed in our physical space for protecting cyberspace objects. These two spaces are so different that methods effective in one do not necessarily work in the other. Our physical space security methods are generally static. In order to adapt to the highly dynamic environment of cyberspace, we need to base our security on dynamics and secure virtualization. Victor Sheymov also authored articles in The Washington Post, Barron's, World Monitor, National Review and other national publications. He appeared at many national news programs including Larry King Live, 48 Hours, Dateline, McNeil-Lehrer, Charlie Rose and the McLaughlin Report.
