Devlin Tracy is a very good insurance investigator in a profession that rewards success. He lives in a luxury condo on the Las Vegas Strip and only works when he feels like it. On the surface everyone's friendly and nothing points to murder, fraud or larceny. A late-night beatdown from two masked thugs sends a very different message, however, and tells Trace that he's onto something. If only he could figure out what he's onto.

Warren Murphy was born in the city of Jersey City in the state of New Jersey. He was a journalist, an editor, and a politician. Murphy saw the arrests of many of his political colleagues as a sign that he needed to find a new vocation, and the Destroyer series was born. Murphy has five children and a few grandchildren: Deirdre, Megan, Brian, Ardath, and Devin. He has taught as an adjunct professor at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, as well as giving workshops and lectures at a variety of other colleges and universities.

Golf, mathematics, opera, and investment are some of his favorite pastimes.
