Travels in Imperial China by George Bishop
Pere Armand David became known for his remarkable scientific reports and discoveries of birds, mammals and plants in China during the latter half of the 19th century. Best-known for his discovery of Pere David's deer and the giant panda, Pere David was also an intrepid traveller, and made three major trips between 1862 and 1874 through Imperial China, Inner Mongolia and Tibet, faithfully recording his findings and adventures. The book is illustrated with period engravings and photographs, with a colour section of some of the species first discovered by Pere David.
George Bishop's work has appeared in Carolina Quarterly and Lindenwood Review. He is the author of seven chapbooks. Bishop won the 2013 Peter Meinke Prize at YellowJacket Press for his chapbook Following Myself Home. He attended Rutgers University and now lives in Saint Cloud, Florida.
