Treachery by Julian Stockwin
Commander Kydd has dragged himself up in the navy from press-ganged seaman to master of his own ship. Now he faces disgrace. After offending an Admiral, and suffering terrible personal tragedy, Kydd is sent to guard the Channel Islands. When he is brutally betrayed off the Normandy Coast and loses command of his ship, only his old friend Renzi is willing to stick by him. Then Kydd is given an opportunity to salvage his fortunes and return to the sea as captain of a privateer. But privateers are hated by the French and the Royal Navy alike. To keep fighting his country's battle and win back the glory taken from him, he must prowl the Atlantic. A lone wolf of the seas, he and his men are prepared to risk everything to capture the wealthy French traders and heavily-armed fighting ships returning to Bonaparte.
'Stirring stuff, liberally laced with shiploads of salty realism and superbly written by a master storyteller' -- Western Morning News on TREACHERY Praise for Julian Stockwin -- - 'Another thundering good read for those who love seagoing stories in the Hornblower mould' -- Peterborough Evening Telegraph 'I was soon turning the pages almost indecently fast.. Roll on, the promised adventures of Kydd and Renzi.' -- Independent on KYDD 'Stockwin paints a vivid picture of life aboard the mighty ship-of-the-line... the harsh naval discipline, the rancid food, and the skill of the common sailor are all skilfully evoked.' -- Daily Express on KYDD 'The appeal of the story is in the telling, which is atmospheric, authentic ... The author had a long career in the Royal Navy, which adds to his prose that extra dash of salty realism.' -- Publishing News on MUTINY 'In Stockwin's hands the sea story will continue to entrance readers across the world.' -- Guardian on KYDD 'Arguably the most vivid "wooden world" of today's naval fiction' -- Warships review 20080701
