In 1850, Robert Louis Stevenson was born in Scotland. His father, grandpa, and numerous predecessors were engineers who were known for designing lighthouses. Robert studied law for a while before deciding to pursue a career as a writer in his late twenties. He published essays about his trips in Europe and America, as well as classic adventure novels like Treasure Island and Kidnapped. In 1886, the first Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was published. Eight years later, Robert Louis Stevenson died.
