A Treasury of Saints by Malcolm Day
Saints come from all walks of life- some were peasants, others doctors of the church. All exhibited a special devotion to God, which manifested itself in different ways, each according to his or her calling. The relevance of saints in today's world is ever-growing as people in need of comfort, protection or encouragement ask for their intercession. Some saints have become patrons of professions, some of cities and countries, others have been adopted for various causes. Each of the 100 saints featured in this book is discussed in depth. A profile of their life is given, highlighting episodes that exemplify their work and character. Ancillary features note the saint's patronage, symbols in art, famous paintings and feast days Cross-references in the text direct the reader to connections with other saints. For example, St Martin of Tours, featured in Professions and Occupations as patron saint of soldiers, refers to another patron saint of soldiers, St George, who appears in the chapter about Disasters and Rescue.
Malcolm Day has a BA Hons in Theology and has written and edited books on religion, history and mind/body/spirit subjects for some fifteen years. He is the author of two books on the Bible and lives in Taunton in Somerset.
