The Trespassers by Pam Rhodes

Philip Barnes, the popular vicar of St John's church in a small West Country town, is very happily married: he and his wife Ruth have a solid relationship based on deep love and a shared commitment to family and to faith. So when he finds himself strongly attracted to his daughter's piano teacher, Louise, his feelings are both stimulating and shocking. Their brief affair has tragic consequences for everyone involved, but once Philip realises Ruth has forgiven him, he can begin to forgive himself.
'Earthly joys, passions and achievements travel side by side, illustrating a multi-purpose belief and veritable, exciting reading... The book is full ... Of people you love and others you love to hate, who slip neatly into their chapters whilst exciting revelations draw to a surprising but glorious conclusion. A story that you will never forget.' Joan Stockdale, North Wales Chronicle (Jan 99) Praise for Pam Rhodes' first novel, With Hearts and Hymns and Voices: 'warm and witty ... a very readable story of village life' Woman's Weekly 'A light-hearted and enjoyable read' Home & Family 'A delightful story with fascinating characters and a very realistic portrayal of village life' Church of England Newspaper 'an irresistible read ... This is trusty Joanna Trollope turf; the very centre of Middle England' -- Clare Garner, The Independent 'a thoughtful, sensitively-written novel about a very topical issue: relationships and dilemmas in the 1990s' -- Birmingham Post 'A delightful, ripping tale, an intriguing story: just the sort of book I'd like to read on holiday' -- Fiona Castle
