In June 1987, he was kidnapped by pro-Iranian terrorists in a Shiite Moslem suburb of Beirut and held for 62 days. His escape made headline news worldwide. This book chronicles Glass' journey from Southern Turkey around the Bay of Alexandretta through Syria, Israel, Jordan and Lebanon. He visited farms, slums, and refugee camps as well as royal friends in feudal places, capturing the entire spectrum of Levantine life. His journey ends wih an account of his kidnapping in Beirut and includes an intimate portrayal of his life as a hostage.
