Troll and the Oliver by Adam Stower

Every day, Oliver goes to the shops and every day Troll tries to eat him. But Troll finds catching an Oliver is very tricky - he's too fast, too sneaky and too plain clever! It is only when it looks like Troll has given up and Oliver celebrates winning that... CHOMP! He gets eaten! Unfortunately for Troll, but fortunately for olivers everywhere, olivers don't taste very nice. So he spits him out and discovers that this Oliver is an excellent baker - and ALL trolls love cakes!
As monster books go this is pretty much perfect.. the double-pumped payoff is so utterly, deliciously satisfying that for a tiny, tiny moment your little one will sit agog. * Read it, Daddy! *

Troll and the Oliver is a delightful tale about a hungry troll and a very clever Oliver! [...] This is a great story especially for those who might be a bit scared of the dark or of monsters as it places little children in the more powerful position, and thus makes them feel like they too need not be scared of what may be lurking!
As well as the great storyline, I was very impressed with the illustrations - the expressions on both characters are manifold and the Troll is made to appear both scared and hapless and lovable at the same time. A great book!
